The Definition of Hell
"Someone once told me the definition of Hell:
The last day you have on earth, the person you became will meet the person you could have become if you had just taken some more chances."
I'll be making sure that when that day arrives, I'm meeting the same exact person. There will be no stone unturned in my life.
I am entering a stage of life where I see people settling and getting comfortable because they see everyone else doing it.
They let how other people are living their lives dictate how they should live their own.
If you are happy, that is all that matters.
But if you know you were meant for more, you need to chase it.
I am destined to do something epic with my professional life. I've always felt that way.
But that greatness does not sit within the walls of corporate finance.
Building a health coaching business and teaching people how to achieve life changing physical and mental transformations and live longer and fuller lives?
We're definitely getting warmer.
I have so much more to figure out, but I won't stop trying.
If you're not sure where to start, I would focus on two simple things:
Take action Learn new things
Pick up that hobby you have always thought about. Learn a new skill that you are interested in. Book that vacation you always talk about.
Get used to taking action instead of just talking about things.
I hate talking. I like doing.
I started playing golf about a year ago.
Everyone I'm playing with is better than me. But I get better every time.
Get comfortable sucking at things because that's the only way you will ever get better.
Everyone sucks at everything at first. But if you don't quit and you get enough reps, you will eventually become good.
It may take a lot more reps than someone more naturally talented or a bit smarter than you.
But anything can be overcome with hard work. If you are willing to put in enough reps, you will inevitably get better.
I was terrified the first few times I went out on the golf course.
Then over time I realized no one is really that good. And everyone is nervous about their own game.
If you think about any fear in life, you're likely not actually that scared to suck at it.
You're scared of other people witnessing the loss. Imagine if you were mentally strong enough to eliminate that fear? To completely block out other people. You could conquer the world.
Don't be scared to suck. In fact you should embrace the suck. Because there are only two ways to fail:
Never trying because you were scared (the ultimate failure) Quitting (still an unfortunate outcome, but at least you tried)
Being comfortable sucking and not giving up is one of the keys to success in life.
Face a fear this week. Try something new.
And know that even if you crash and burn, you have more cojones than 90% of the people around you who were too scared to even try.
And then pick yourself up and try again.
Stay well, Hal the Health Coach
