Create a Daily Minimum
With a new year upon us I'd like to revisit a concept that I've spoken about before - The Daily Minimum.
The Daily Minimum is a fitness related action item(s) that you must complete every day.
The idea is to create one, do it long enough for it to become habit, at which point you can move onto something else while continuing the new habit you've now built.
A previous Daily Minimum for me that I instituted a while back was 10k steps per day.
My 2 year average daily step count proves that habit has been built.
Therefore I recently implemented a new one: - 100 crunches per day - 5-10 minutes of mobility / stretching
The idea is that this minimum should be in addition to your scheduled workouts, not in place of.
So in addition to getting in 4 lifts per week, 1-2 cardio sessions, and 10k steps per day, I have also committed to the new daily minimum of 100 crunches and 5-10 mins of stretching.
I've been doing it for about a month now. I've definitely missed a day or two, but for the most part have stuck with it.
If I miss a day, just like if I have one bad meal or day of eating, I don't harp on it very long. I just move on and get right back after it the next day.
If my daily minimums don't appeal to you, pick something that does.
Other options include: - 50 pushups - 50 squats - 5-10 pull ups - 15 burpees - 15 minute walk first thing in the morning - 10 minute walk after every meal - Foam roller for 10 minutes
2025 is here. It's the perfect time to commit to something new.
Create a Daily Minimum for yourself today, and start executing it tomorrow.
Let me know what you decide to do.
