Are You the Whale or the Sea Monster?
"Consistency alone beats 99% of people because most people quit." - Dan Martell
A few months ago I was hanging out with my 5 year old niece at the pool. After wrapping up an epic game of sea monster, we grabbed some lunch. Soon after our chicken quesadillas arrived, Kenzie said to me, "Uncle Hal, why are your arms so much bigger than all the other dads at the pool?"
Those of you who have followed my personal story may recall that the turning point for me which sparked change was when my mom told me I was overweight after a weekend flopping around at the beach. It happened at the same beach club at the exact same time of year, ~5 years prior.
Well, things had really come full circle. The narrative had completely changed. I'd gone from the fattest whale on the beach to the most jacked sea monster at the pool.
These are the moments that we are actually seeking by getting into shape. It's not really about the scale. Or how much weight you throw up on the bench. Those things are great too, don't get me wrong. But it's the subtle comments from coworkers, friends, or family that come out of nowhere and make your day.
It's the recognition that you're setting the ultimate example in all areas of your life for the people around you that look up to you - just like that moment I had with Kenz. It's the immediate respect you command with your physical presence when you walk into a room.
So ask yourself, are you the whale, or the sea monster? As someone who has been both, I can tell you that it's very worth the effort to become the monster.
I just had a client named James roll off my roster. He lost 15 pounds, but more importantly, he also lowered his A1c by 1 point during our time together.
