Alcohol Facts and Calorie Guide
WEEKLY CLIENT RESOURCE
Good morning, Subscriber First Name,
Alcohol is bad for you and has no nutritional benefits. We all know that, but some of us still choose to drink it (including me), and that's okay.
Drinking alcohol can be a fun, social activity, and having fun and being social are very good for you.
But to any of you who have cut it out of your life entirely - good for you. That takes an incredible amount of willpower and discipline, especially in the society we live in. If you can do that, you can do anything.
However, if approached in moderation and a calorie-conscious fashion, you can still accomplish your health goals with alcohol in the picture.
I drink much less than I used to, but still average ~10-15 drinks per week (which is still too much). And even with that approach I was able to still get down to the leanest I've ever been over the summer at 175 pounds and 10.9% body fat with visible abs.
It's a calorie and protein game, as you already know. It's possible to have drinks throughout the week and still not exceed your calorie targets. It's just extra important to absolutely nail your nutrition on the days you do consume it, as there isn't much more room for additional empty calories.
The lowest calorie / most readily available beers include Michelob Ultra, Corona Premier, and Miller Lite. Drinking your favorite liquor on the rocks or mixed with soda water or any diet soda is an efficient approach as well from a calorie perspective.
If you can tackle wine in moderation and truly monitor your glass count, it can work, but I'm generally pretty anti wine as it's so easy to lose track and quickly down an entire bottle. Most of my clients who have had trouble cutting back have been heavy wine drinkers.
